Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 13, 2026
Hecate is a personal map of the places you explore. This policy explains what information Hecate collects, why it is used, and the choices available to you.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create or sign in to an account, we process your email address and the authentication information needed to maintain your account.
Location and discovery data. When you deliberately start a walk, Hecate collects your precise location, time, and location accuracy to create your route and calculate the places you have discovered. Selecting Finish or Stop ends walk recording. While the app is open, Hecate also uses your location to show your position. During a recording, Hecate may remind you to stop after 15 minutes near one spot in an area you already discovered; the reminder does not stop recording.
Optional discovery reminders. If you enable discovery reminders in Account & sync, Hecate can check movement while your phone is in the background and suggest starting a walk after five minutes of movement through areas not yet on your discovery map. Movement through already discovered areas does not trigger a reminder. Reminder samples are processed on your device, not saved as a route, and not sent to your account. Only the reminder setting and the time of the last reminder are stored on your device. Turning reminders off stops this background monitoring when no walk is active.
Technical information. Our service providers may process limited technical information, such as IP address and request logs, when the app connects to authentication, storage, or map-tile services. Hecate may send your current position to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to identify the city region containing it.
How we use information
We use your information to provide the app: authenticate you, save and synchronize your discoveries across your signed-in devices, show maps, and respond to support requests. We do not sell your location history or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Where information is stored
Account, route, and discovery data are stored in our Supabase-backed database for your signed-in account. Hecate uses OpenFreeMap map tiles to display the map. These providers process data only as needed to provide their services.
Your choices and deletion
You can stop an active walk at any time and turn discovery reminders off in Account & sync. You can also control location and notification permissions in your device settings.
To delete your account and the discoveries and routes associated with it, open Hecate’s account and sync panel, select Delete account, and confirm. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. If you cannot access the app, contact us at the address below.
Data retention
We retain your account and discovery data while your account is active. Deleting your account deletes the associated account, routes, and discovery data from our application database.
Children
Hecate is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices change. We will publish the updated version on this page and revise the effective date.
